Willowell's Keeping Track
Wildlife Monitoring Program
Start date: September, 2007

This fall, the Willowell Foundation will sponsor a local Keeping
Track Wildlife Monitoring Program. Keeping Track, Inc, is a non-
profit educational organization whose mission is to inspire community participation in the long-term stewardship of wildlife habitat. Starting in September 2007 with an evening Wildlife Event, the Willowell Foundation will host a Keeping Track Wildlife Monitoring Course to train Addison County community members and teachers to observe, interpret, record and monitor evidence of wildlife habitat in their communities.

Wildlife monitoring is an important tool in identifying and preserving critical habitats for Vermont’s wide-ranging mammal populations. By generating data on habitat use, people trained in the Keeping Track Wildlife Monitoring Course will help to make informed land use planning decisions that meet the needs of people and wildlife.  Our course will focus on training public school teachers to begin wildlife monitoring programs with their students, enriching students’ educational experiences through real-world projects while offering an important service to the community.

The Wildlife Event will be an evening community program and will take place at 7pm on September 11th, 2007, in the Vergennes Union High School gymnasium. The course will take place monthly, starting in October 2007.

Below, you will find more information about these events (including dates and detailed descriptions), as well as registration information. There is room for 20 participants in the Wildlife Monitoring course,  at least 10 of whom will be teachers. Please register early to ensure your spot!
