Keeping Track
January 9, 2007: Thanks to a generous $3,000 grant from an
anonymous Addison County donor, the Willowell Foundation will host Keeping Track events in 2007-2008.
Keeping Track’s mission is to inspire community participation in the long-term stewardship of wildlife habitat. The organization does this by offering Wildlife Events, an evening slideshow and presentation about Vermont wildlife and tracking, and a 6-session Wildlife Monitoring course that teaches the basics of wildlife monitoring through the seasons to community groups, organizations and individuals.
We are pleased to announce that Susan Morse, nationally-recognized tracker and habitat specialist and founder of Keeping Track, has offered us a generous grant to cover over half the cost of the Wildlife Event and the Wildlife Monitoring course, a gift which will enable us to hold the Event in early September and start a Wildlife Monitoring course on the Willowell Land in October.
The purpose of the Event and Course is to teach community members, educators and older students the practice of wildlife monitoring, with the Willowell Land as a focus for monitoring projects. Our hope is that this course will teach educators working within our network how to conduct wildlife monitoring at our land in Monkton, while preparing them to conduct similar monitoring projects in future years that eventually focus on the land around their home schools as well as the Willowell Land.
