the landThe Land The Willowell Foundation is located on 230 acres in Monkton, Vermont. The land was purchased in 2001 to create a permanent space for our many outdoor education and arts programs. Willowell has a very diverse landscape! Forest, wetlands, and meadows make our property the perfect place to learn about the ecology of Vermont. For instance, students in Walden take nature walks every week during their environmental science class. Keeping Track, our wildlife monitoring program, has special access to the habitats of wild animals in Vermont because we provide a safe pathway between the Hogback mountain ridges. The property was formerly farm land that has had quite a few years of rest. As you pull up to Willowell, you'll see a very old barn and our current garden. We hope to expand into an educational homestead someday and be able to use the farmland to teach young people about sustainable food systems. We are especially proud of our wetlands, which are protected through the Vermont Nature Conservancy and the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department. Learn more about our wetland restoration efforts here!
