Community Garden

OVERVIEW

Founded in 2002 by Walden Project students, the Community Garden has grown from a few raised beds to a half-acre plot that provides fresh, local produce to Willowell students and local food shelves such as the Helping Overcome Poverty’s Effects (HOPE) and the John Graham Shelter.

Carrots, garlic, kale, potatoes, raspberries, rutabagas, and squash are among the many fruits and vegetables that students, staff, and volunteers grow organically each year. Walden Year and Pond Brook students take part in all aspects of the garden, from seed ordering and planting to harvesting and all the way through preparing and eating the school program's daily stew. Individuals and groups, such as Middlebury college students, girl scout troops, and students with the Hannaford Career Center volunteer year round to help in this effort while enjoying pizza made from our homemade pizza oven. We always welcome new and continuing volunteers to our land and garden!
